Motown bests Charm City 3 to 1

game 1

Baltimore 8 Detroit 3 .... Boog Powell hit a 2 run homer in the first inning, a 3 run homer in the 5th inning and a 2 run homer in the 7th.  Brooks Robinson added a solo homer. Pappas got an easy win and McLain had a rough night.

 

game 2

Detroit 5 Orioles 3 .... Willy Horton hit a 2 run homer in the 9th inning to break a 3 all tie to give Tigers the win.  Tigers had grabbed an early 3-0 lead as Horton drove 1 in with sac fly and Monbouguette squeezed another one in and McAuliffe's grounder plated the 3rd run in the 2nd inning. Orioles got 1 back in the 4th when Bowens grounder scored Siebern who had doubled and in the 8th Boog Powell hit 2 run homer to tie the game. Gladding earned the save for the tigers.

 

game 3

Tigers 9 Orioles 2 ... Cash and Northrup each hit a 3 run homer and Kaline contributed a pair of rbi singles. D Brown hit solo homer for Orioles.  Lolich got the win pitching into the 8th allowing 5 hits and walking 5 batters.

 

game 4

Tigers 5 Orioles 0 ... Johnny Podres pitched a shutout, scattering 8 hits, striking out 5 and walking no one. Tigers scored all 5 runs in the 3rd with Horton's 3 run homer topping the scoring off. McNally struggled thru 5 innings.
